Meteorite locating methods and tips:

One of the most modern ways of first finding meteorite specimens is to use a hand held metal detector. Metal detectors vary so insure to consult with your local authorized dealers to help equip you with the proper detector  depending on your terrain and elements you will be searching in, as well they can give you tips on how to set up your detector as well as proper techniques needed to use your device.

Another more in-expensive method to locate specimens is to use a strong magnet attached to a stick or pole, this can be simply made or bought at your local prospector supply store.

Although the two listed methods above work time and time again there are many of digital/pulse and fancy magnetic devices available for purchase but they defenitly are NOT the only ways, many specimens have been found by simply looking at your surrounding and handling/researching different rocks or irons your find. Remember only roughly 1 out of 100000 average samples tested by people who thought they have a meteor are actually that of a meteor. See University of Washingtons meteor wrong page.
